Thanks to the sharp eye and good instincts of BRAT volunteer Rhonda Benoit, a new-to-our-area invasive plant has been spotted and recorded with the State of Vermont and with the Town of Woodstock, where it was discovered.

Known by several common names such as Japanese butterbur, Fuki, Swamp Rhubarb, and Giant Coltsfoot, the imported plant hails from Asia and its exotic foliage is both the reason it's here and the reason it's a growing concern.

The Black River Action Team wraps up a six-week-long exhibit of art and citizen science in The Great Hall at One Hundred River Street in Springfield, VT with a bang - at 5:30 PM on Friday, August 2nd. Everyone is invited to a "Grand Closing" event for a final opportunity to see the displays before they are taken down in time for the next installation in the gallery.

This classic event at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 313 Main Street in Chester offers a menu that includes three meats, cold soups, a big variety of salads and delicious desserts. This year's supper will again be on the church lawn on Saturday, August 3 from 5 to 7 pm with continuous eating; but should it rain, guests will eat in Willard Hall.

The Black River Action Team invites everyone to participate in family-friendly fun and citizen science in Springfield, VT! Guided walks, exhibit booths, kid-friendly activities and displays. From noon until 5pm on Saturday, July 27th you'll learn about fish and other aquatic flora and fauna.
