Whiting Library, located on Main Street in Chester is participating in Vermont Department of Health program to provide pre-paid envelopes for the safe disposal of unused, expired or unwanted medications. You may mail back over-the-counter medication, prescription medication, patches and ointments, pet medications, vitamins.

This is one special and very different hike! Leaders from the Putney Mountain Association and Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association will guide hikers from different starting points, via different routes, to converge upon the site of the ancient windmill that inspired the names for Windmill Mountain, Windmill Hill, and Windmill Ridge. This free, coordinated hike will take place on Saturday October 13, beginning at either 10 AM or 11 AM and ending around 2 PM.

Whether the Pancake Feast - served 9 AM to 1 PM on Saturday October 13 at St. Luke's Church in Chester - becomes breakfast, brunch, or lunch, anyone can enjoy an earlier start on the day or a delicious break amid shopping or sightseeing if someone else is the chef! October 4th is traditionally the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. On this date it is customary that in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures, animals are led to churches for a special ceremony called the "Blessing of the Animals."

On Saturday, October 6, 2018, from 10:00-3:00, Columbus Weekend, the Chester Andover Family Center will hold a HUGE "Christmas Under the Tent" sale. Holiday items for decorating, entertaining and gift giving will be available. We will have toys, gifts, items for your holiday table, artificial trees, Christmas Cards and decorations galore. Everything under the tent will be priced from $1-$25.

Since 2000, volunteers with the Black River Action Team have gathered at the end of each summer to paddle, wade, pull, reach, walk, and grapple with trash of all kinds in an effort to clean up the Black River.

Wander down a forested path and enjoy the sounds of birdsong and children's laughter. Strolling at your own pace, you can examine the enchanting details of the small houses which have been built here for the fairies: the birch branches transformed into bridges, the twigs woven into tiny treehouse ladders, the acorn cap dinnerware set for a fairy party. Whiting Library on Main Street in Chester, Vermont is pleased to present "Frieda Post: Realistic and Abstract" an exhibition of twenty paintings. Frieda studied painting at the Studio School in Roanoke, VA and at Michigan Technological University. Her work has been exhibited in juried, individual and group show, in galleries and in private collections in the U.S., Europe and Japan.
