The Chester Conservation Committee will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 4. At 6 PM, we will walk the Brookside Trail and at 7 PM we will hold our meeting in Frank's room at the Chester Andover Elementary School. Please join us as your schedule permits.

This August, The Nature Museum at Grafton is offering a unique, outdoor adventure for youth. Wild Walkers Wilderness: A Way of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the woods, ponds and fields around The Nature Museum at Grafton.

On Saturday, August 1st, the 77th Annual August Supper will be held at St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 313 Main Street in Chester on the back lawn under two tents, rain or shine. As in the last couple years, this banquet is continuous seating and eating from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost for adults is $15; a child aged 6 to 10 is $7.50, and 5 and under is free. In addition a silent auction of art and services will be ongoing throughout the dinner. All proceeds benefit the church and its outreach to the greater community.

Tom Ross at Young's Furniture & Appliance in the Springfield Shopping Plaza invites everyone to stop by and buy some 50/50 raffle tickets before July 30th. As part of a new effort to support their local community, the store is holding a 50/50 raffle each month, benefiting a different non-profit organization every month. Tickets are just $1 each and are available at the counter in the rear of the store during normal business hours.

The Springfield, VT wrestling team is working hard to raise $10,000 for new wrestling mats. About half-way there already with monies raised from spaghetti suppers and tournament fees, the team is hosting a new kind of fundraiser this summer: The Color Gauntlet. A roughly 5K untimed round-trip fun-run or walk, the Gauntlet takes place on Saturday, August 29th on the Toonerville Trail recreation path in Springfield, parallel to the Black River on one side and Clinton St (Rte 11) on the other.

At the last regular meeting of the Chester Conservation Committee it was decided to skip our July meeting and get together again in August. During our conversations following maintenance work at the Lost Mine Trail this past Saturday (thank you to those who helped!) we discussed the idea of meeting in July anyway to do some more scouting for the new "Brookside Trail" on the newly acquired town parcel across the brook from the cemetery.
