Blessing of the Animals October 6 and 7 at St. Luke's Church

posted Thursday, September 27, 2018

October 4th is traditionally the Feast Day of Saint Francis of Assisi. On this date it is customary that in remembrance of St. Francis of Assisi's love for all creatures, animals are led to churches for a special ceremony called the "Blessing of the Animals."

Here at St. Luke's we celebrate this special event on the Saturday and Sunday closest to that date. Open to the community, all pets and their owners are invited to attend this informal outdoor service to honor and give thanks for the special role pets play in our daily lives.

St. Luke's Church offers two opportunities to participate: Saturday, October 6 at 11:00 a.m. and on Sunday, October 7 at 4:00 p.m. In addition to receiving a blessing by the Rev. Heidi Edson, each pet will be given a tasty treat and a Saint Francis pet medallion. There will be treats for human and fur visitors. The animal blessing will take place on the side lawn of St. Luke's (or in the event of rain, in Willard Hall.)

Flagler, the Watters' fourteenth mascot, hopes to come.
