The 2019 LEGO Contest is taking place on Saturday March 16 from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the NewsBank Conference Center, 352 Main Street, Chester, VT. The event is open to LEGOmaniacs Pre-K through Grade 8 and their families.

Seven members of the Springfield, VT's varsity wrestling team battled it out for the two-day Michael Baker Classic tournament in Essex on January 18th and 19th. Coach Don Beebe was very pleased with the efforts put forth by every grappler.

Don Dalton of Smokeshire Piano Service has completed the much-needed repair of Whiting Library's piano. The Library is extremely grateful for this generous service to the community. The 1950's era Story and Clark upright was donated over 15 years ago and has languished on the lower floor. When Don volunteered his service, the piano was moved to the main floor in more favorable heat and light where he began a thorough assessment of its needs.

Poetry Nighters Bill Dakin (left), of Chester, and Bill Reed, formerly of Chester, present a copy of the recently published "Poetry Night, Twenty-five Years" to Sharon Tanzer, Whiting Library librarian. The book is a compilation of a quarter-century's worth of poems written by a group of friends for their annual Poetry Night, a pot luck gathering that began in Bill and Lynne Reed's back yard in Grafton, then moved to behind Misty Valley Books, when the Reeds bought the book store.

Coach Floyd Buck, Jr. recently headed to Fair Haven, VT with the high school wrestlers for the annual Slater Dual Meet, while Coach Don Beebe took the junior high team to Milton, VT for a tournament. Every grappler showed improvement, strength, determination, and spirit - the high school team racked up eight wins against teams such as Mt Anthony (Bennington) and Burr & Burton (Manchester); junior high wrestlers brought home 2nd place (Ayden Smith) and 3rd place (Cole Wright) along with several other wins after a very long day of grappling.

Whiting Library, located on Main Street in Chester, is delighted to welcome new Youth Services Librarian Stephanie Kaufman. After several months, many applicants and interviews, Stephanie will be joining the staff of Whiting Library and offering her services to the children, teens and families of the community.

The team scored 5th place overall at a varsity tournament on December 29th, under the direction of Coach Floyd Buck, Jr. and assistant coaches John Stafford, Jr. and Bradley Bennett, veterans of the Springfield wrestling program.
