Chester Townscape Invitation to Adopt a Pot

posted Friday, May 13, 2016

This is an invitation from Chester Townscape to help make Chester beautiful by taking or sharing responsibility for watering a pot or planter.

On May 26, Chester Townscape volunteers will fill pots, barrels, and planters with glorious flowers to once again brighten visible places around town. Additionally, this year boxes will be added to the south Route 103 Main Street bridge to welcome travelers to the center of town. Hanging baskets will be added at the Pinnacle Recreation Area. Additional flowers will be planted at the Chester Family Center and at the Drew's sign. Because of the increase in the number of planted areas, Chester Townscape is looking for volunteers to help with the watering. Anyone interested should call Jane Davis at 875-1855.

In her pitch for help, Davis is encouraging people to take on a share of the responsibility by imagining a pot's appeal as it pleas for water and attention: "I am beautiful, calm, get along well with everyone, and don't shed. All I need is TLC, fresh water daily, and a weekly feeding and grooming. Please adopt me and make me your own, or share me with a friend."

Flowering needs are located all over town, and interested volunteers are encouraged to consider adopting or sharing one of these places:

  • Town Hall on weekends: 4 boxes and 2 pots
  • Pinnacle: 6 whiskey barrels, 4 hanging planters
  • Library: 2 pots and 1 planter
  • Information Booth: 2 whiskey barrels
  • North Bridge: 6 long boxes (3 on each side)
  • South Bridge: 4 long boxes on the sidewalk side
  • Monument: 2 pots
  • Village Green: 2 pots
  • Yosemite Fire Station: 1 whiskey barrel
  • Drew's Sign: 1 planter
  • Cemetery wall opposite the Village Green: impatiens all along

There are more locations available. To those interested in helping, Jane Davis will offer hints for the best ways to transport water and the best places for parking to make the watering as easy as possible.

Contributions are still being accepted to help pay for the flowers in the various locations around town. If interested in helping to fund a new planting at $85 or replanting at $50, please make the check payable to Chester Community Alliance, Inc., marked for Chester Townscape in the memo line, and mailed to Chester Townscape, PO Box 561, Chester, VT 05143. Every contribution is appreciated.

Join the Chester Townscape volunteers in their efforts to show that Chester is a thriving and welcoming place to visit, shop, and live. Most planters should be in key locations by Memorial Day Weekend.
