TransCanada Bellows Falls Fish Ladder Visitor Center to Open May 28 For the Summer

posted Wednesday, May 11, 2016

BELLOWS FALLS, VT - The Nature Museum, in partnership with the TransCanada Corporation, will open the TransCanada Bellows Falls Fish Ladder Visitor Center on Saturday, May 28. The Visitor Center will be open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10am to 4pm. The visitor center is located in downtown Bellows Falls, next to the Post Office building on Bridge Street. Admission and programs at the Visitor Center are always free.

The mission of the Visitor Center is to inspire stewardship of the Connecticut River and all our local waterways. The Nature Museum operates the Visitor Center on behalf of TransCanada Corporation, owner of the fish ladder as well as the hydroelectric facility in Bellows Falls, Vermont. TransCanada has partnered with The Nature Museum since 2003 to provide free environmental education programs to the public each summer in this facility.

At the Visitor Center, Rachel Brown, Naturalist Educator, will lead hands-on environmental programs on Fridays and Saturdays. Programs begin at 11 a.m.; you can find a schedule at www.nature-museum.org.

The Visitor Center will also be open on Saturday, May 21 from 10am to 4pm, which is World Fish Migration Day. It's a perfect time to learn about the Connecticut River watershed, salmon, and other fish that use the fish ladder, and the river's many plants and animals.
