2nd Annual Garlic Mustard Pull-a-Palooza

posted Friday, May 29, 2015

The Black River Action Team will be offering information, supplies, and even recipes at the 2nd Annual Garlic Mustard Pull-a-Palooza. Come learn what garlic mustard is, why we're interested in pulling it, and how to prepare and eat this "problem plant." The free event will be held on Sunday, June 7th from 9 - 11AM at the dirt parking lot of the Springweather Nature Area, just off Reservoir Road (about a mile and a half from Route 106/River St) in Springfield, Vermont. Participants should bring thin gardening gloves for feeling the "hook" of the plant's root just under the soil, drinking water, sun protection, bug spray if desired, and a bag for bringing home their own "stash" of garlic mustard. Since Springweather is managed by the Army Corps of Engineers, there will be a few forms to sign. While this event is most suitable for adults and older children, anyone under 15 should be under the direct supervision of an adult, as there are sensitive plants in the area.
