Open Letter in Honor of BRATs During National Volunteer Appreciation Month

posted Friday, April 17, 2015

Since that first RiverSweep cleanup 15 years ago, I've known that I can accomplish more when I have help. There were just a few of us that first autumn day (literally 4 adults and a 2-year-old), and we did a heckuva stroke of work. Alone, it would have taken me three times as long to collect half as much trash, and some items would still be in the river (the metal plate, some of the tires).

Here we are, a decade and a half later, and the BRAT does amazing work, all across the watershed -- by volunteers. From water quality monitoring to tree planting, paddling to trash-cleaning, I organize the events and so many of you folks are able and willing to donate your time, elbow-grease, or money to doing something positive in your community.

Each and every one of you does what she or he can to improve the quality of the Black River, and the quality of life in the watershed.

You inspire me.

When I compose the latest newsletter, I think about the 300+ people it gets sent to, and I am humbled by your interest, your commitment, and your friendship.

Thank you. Each of you. All of you.

If anyone out there is interested in learning how they can join the BRAT family, get in touch via email to learn about the many projects we do throughout the year.

Sincerely,
Kelly Stettner, Director
