Beyond Surface: East Meets West

Between 1999 and 2010 Richard Weis visited South Korea on six occasions visiting artists in their studios, going to galleries and museums, and working with university art students. Most of the artists visited were contemporary artists working out of a modernist tradition, a few were working in more conceptual art forms, and some were continuing the long traditions of Korean Art. This presentation will introduce the audience to some very interesting contemporary Korean artists and some of the ways exchanges with these artists informed his work.
