Chester is about to get a spring facelift. It's the first initiative by a new organization: the Chester Beautification Committee. This all-volunteer group, under the auspices of the Chester Economic Development Corporation, has one mission: to enhance the appearance and appeal of Chester for residents, businesses, and visitors.

The committee is soliciting contributions to purchase large containers that will be filled with soil and planted with flowers. These planters will be placed in key locations throughout the town center to show that Chester is a thriving and welcoming place to visit, shop, and live. Other seasonal and long-term projects are in the works.

The gray planters will be placed at a variety of very visible public places: the Village Green walkways and monument, Whiting Library, Post Office, Chester Railway Station, Depot gazebo, Town Hall, and Yosemite Firehouse. Businesses and residents are encouraged to make this project a reality by donating to the public part of the effort and/or by purchasing a planter for their own business or property. The cost of each planted containers is $85, but every sponsored pot or contribution to the effort will be appreciated and add to a coordinated look for the town that will last well into the fall.

To order a planted container for the public part of the project or for a business or private property, please contact Tory Spater at 802-875-2952 or [email protected].

The check for a planter and/or a contribution should be made payable to Chester Economic Development Corporation, marked for Chester Beautification in the memo line, and mailed to PO Box 130, Chester, VT 05143, c/o Tory Spater. A swift response in donations will help the purchase of pots and plants before the planting takes place on May 29.

The Chester Beautification Committee encourages widespread participation in this new effort and welcomes suggestions of additional sites that would benefit from a planter to make Chester more appealing and attractive. Please contact Tory Spater with suggestions and help this volunteer effort to bring out the best in Chester.
