Chester Conservation Committee Presents Logging Of A Bygone Era March 12

posted Friday, February 22, 2013

Dick Nason of Glens Falls, NY, will be offering a presentation of the history of logging in Vermont, New York, and Maine on Mar. 12, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the First Universalist Parish in Chester, VT. He will use a combination of 33mm slides, 16mm films and videos from the 1920s-1940s to provide a fascinating and informative view of how logging was done during these times.

Dick's interest in logging history is an off-shoot of his career as a forester for the paper and pulp manufacturer, Finch, Pruyn, and Co. Inc. of Glens Falls, NY. He is a featured speaker with many community groups, including local schools. He is currently writing a book on river driving on the Hudson River and its tributaries and on Finch, Pruyn's early forest management and early harvesting techniques. His travels to many countries on several continents have further broadened his knowledge of historical harvesting and forest management around the world.

This program is sponsored by the Chester Conservation Committee. For more information, please contact Melissa Post at [email protected] or (802) 875-4102.
