Chester Conservation Committee Meeting Notes; Name Change

posted Thursday, August 16, 2012

Hello everyone,

At the meeting of the Chester Conservation Committee this past Tuesday, the group decided to change the name. The change is intended to better reflect our purpose of fostering an awareness and stewardship of Chester's rich heritage of natural resources and outdoor educational and recreational opportunities. After much discussion the group decided on "Chester Nature Club".

If you are aware of any confusion this name might cause with other groups in the community, or have an alternative that better describes the group, please let me know as soon as possible. We are in the process of building our display for the Fall Festival on the Green and are planning to introduce the new name then.

Just a few other notes from the meeting:

- We will launch a mini-series of natural resource programs on Sept. 22 with a program titled "Living With Black Bears in Vermont". Other programs will be scheduled for November, January, March, and May. Topics include Got Bats?, Invasive Earthworms, The Impact of Irene on our Streams, and A History of Logging in New England. Watch for more announcements

- We will be taking a year off from the Enchanted Forest event so we can recharge our batteries and come back next fall with a better than ever presentation. If you have an interest in participating as a member of the cast or stage crew, please let us know. There is always need for a few more helping hands

- There is an interest in identifying potential walking/running trails in and around the town. The group will be in touch with our new town recreation director to see how we can work together with others in the community to move forward. Please let us know if you support the idea and if you have suggestions for locations for suitable trails.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Chester Andover Elementary School. We would love to have you join us!
