Fairy House Time At The Nature Museum At Grafton

posted Saturday, August 11, 2012

When we are young we learn A planted seed becomes a flower An acorn grows into an oak tree From an egg a baby bird will hatch Tadpoles turn into frogs And caterpillars transform into butterflies. Who wouldn't believe in fairies? -- Barry and Tracy Kane, Fairy Houses... Unbelievable

It's Fairy House time again, and we need your help to make the fairy magic happen! You are invited to create a fairy house for exhibit at the 2012 Fairy House Tour, to be held on September 29th and 30th from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at The Nature Museum at Grafton.

The Annual Fairy House Tour is the Museum's most important fundraiser, helping to fund our school and community nature programs, our natural history exhibits, and much more. We want our fairy village to reflect our own local villages. We're hoping that your school group, business, organization, family, or group of friends will contribute a structure to our village. Fairy house creators will receive recognition in press releases and in the event program that all tour attendees will receive.

All fairy house makers who register to build a house (click here to register) by September 7th will receive two free tickets to the Fairy House Tour. If you have friends or colleagues who might be interested in building a house, please forward this along to them!

Not sure where to start? The Nature Museum will hold a free workshop on Saturday, September 8th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for fairy house makers who need extra inspiration, ideas, and natural materials.

We hope to match or surpass last year's tally of 28 fairy houses. If you or your organization would like to create a fairy house this year, please register online to build a fairy house or call The Nature Museum at 802-843-2111. For guidelines detailing what materials to use in your fairy structure, check out our Fairy House page.

Past fairy house creations have ranged from the intricately detailed to the sublimely simple. Fairy houses need not be houses at all -- they are structures (from houses to boats to hair salons to concert halls) that are constructed from natural materials and are alluring to wee folk (fairies, pixies, brownies, elves, sprites, gnomes and their friends). The crook of a tree, a hollow in a root, an acorn -- these suddenly take on possibilities far beyond themselves and open a wide new door to nature.

The Nature Museum's Fourth Annual Fairy House Tour seeks to stun the fairy house groupies, to amaze people of all generations while putting your personal talents and imagination to work in unique ways. Please be one of our fabulous exhibitors this year, unleash your imagination, and discover the wonders of nature.

Thank you for your time and energy!
