St. Luke's Church is Alive at Chester's Fall Festival Sept. 16-17

posted Friday, September 8, 2017

St. Luke's Episcopal Church at 313 Main Street in Chester will have a presence on its side lawn during one of ten best fall events in Vermont, Chester's Fall Festival on the Green on Saturday and Sunday, September 16 and 17. As the Rector, Rev. Heidi Edson recently shared in her sermon, there is a decline in church membership across all denominations. The younger generations are busy with jobs, sports and other Sunday activities besides religion. They are also curious about what goes on inside our church. The Vestry approved and encouraged the participation in this successful community event.

On Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. the highlight will be a scavenger hunt inside the sanctuary, as well as outside. On through the day, volunteers will be sharing information about St. Luke's faith with popcorn, cookies, homemade lemon iced tea and a show and tell table full of activities. One can try on a mask, sort flower seeds, get a dog biscuit, a cat toy or make an ornament. These all tie in with St. Luke's programs for the rest of 2017, the blessing of the animals in October, the fresh start of church school, the memorial gardens and the Annual Christmas Tea which is always held the first Saturday in December. A colorful handout highlights these ministries with an invitation to join us in worship and celebrating St. Luke's gifts.

On Sunday from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Jennings & McComber, the Celtic duo of Kara Watters Lake and husband, Andy, will perform a free concert. Their CD "Let Fall the Fine" will be available. Information about the couple's music can be found on their website: jenningsandmccomber.weebly.com. Details are also available on the church website: www.stlukesepiscopalvt.org and the Chester Rotary Club site: chesterfallfestival.org.

Do come by and join the fun and fellowship.
