The Fullerton Inn Hosts "Celebrating French White Wines" March 9

posted Thursday, February 9, 2012

The Fullerton Inn is presenting the next installment in their very popular "Celebrating Wine" series, Friday, March 9th from 6-9 pm. They will present "Celebrating French White Wines". In the past the series has explored Cabernet Sauvignons, Chardonneys, Merlots, Wines from Spain and Wines of South Africa. This time they will explore a selection of white wines from France. Nine French white wines will be selected for the evening and they will continue the format of pairing foods with each of nine wines from the featured category. If you haven't been to one of these "Celebrating Wine" events at the Fullerton Inn you should know that it is an extraordinary event. The evening centers around the presentation of nine different wines from the evening's theme, in this case, white wines grown and produced in France. The chef then creates nine dishes, one each to compliment each of the nine different wines. The wine and food pairings are presented in groups of three while the host of the evening discusses French white wines in general, the selected wines are described by a representative of the wine distributor and and just some general wine information is discussed.

It is a very special evening that begins with the seating of all of the guests in our main dining room. Bret Rugg, owner of the Fullerton Inn, welcomes the guests and introduces the evening's topic, in this case, white wines from France. After a brief description of the history and current state of French wine production, the guests are presented with their first course of three wines and three carefully selected food pairings. The Fullerton Inn's Chef James Beliveau has created each specially prepared food item to pair with one wine during the evening. Bret Rugg and a representative of the wine distributor, talk about the three wines presented in the first course and then Chef James will appear and explain his philosophy for pairing each food with each wine.

The guests then enjoy the first course. Once everyone is finished the first course is cleared away and the second course of three new wines and three different food pairings are presented. Bret Rugg and the wine rep. explain the second group of wines and then Chef James explains the second course of food pairings. The guests then enjoy the second course.

The action is repeated for the third course (usually a dessert themed course). During and after the presentations the guests are free to ask questions about the food, the specific wines or wines in general. It's a lot of fun and Chef James presents some exquisite food. The guests are enthusiastic about the format and the food and many of the attendees have been to all of the "Celebrating Wine" nights.

The global wine industry owes much to the French wine community. Most of the "international" wine varieties grown and produced in countries all over the world, came from France. Many of the techniques and customs of wine production either originated in France or were perfected in France. In studying the wine industry, I continually notice that, wherever in the world the wine is produced, some element of the wine production refers back to France. Many of the most respected wines come from France. Italy, Spain and even California may argue the point, but France holds a place as the "motherland" of wine production. Chardonneys, Pinot Gris (Pinto Grigio), and Sauvignon Blanc (white wine varieties that originated in France) are three of the most widely produced wines everywhere in the world that wine is produced.

Needless to say, but France produces some very fine examples of white wines. So, join us in exploring the variety of French White wines, and maybe we will introduce you to some new favorite wines. The "Celebrating Wine" event will be held at the Fullerton Inn in Chester, Vermont on Friday, March 9th, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm. The nine wines will be presented in pairing with very special sample dishes prepared especially for the event by the Fullerton Inn's own Chef James Beliveau. You owe it to yourself to attend this event. Chef James is very creative and, as in the past events, puts a real passion into creating exciting dishes that appropriately pair with each wine presented. It is quite an evening!

Reservations for the event are $60 per person, or $110 per couple and are available by calling the Fullerton Inn toll-free at 866-884-8578 or locally at 802-875-2444. Spaces are very limited, so, reservations are required for this wonderful evening in celebration of French White Wines.
