VTica's Opening Reception For "Jack Dowds 27" And Special Offers

posted Thursday, June 28, 2012

Imagine if you could get yourself back to the youthful idealism that was Woodstock.

Let's get back to the passion, creativity, and beauty of the music that has shaped the last 50 years of American culture. Jack Dowds 27 will exhibit 10 large intimate paintings and the stories behind the story of this exclusive club. You can now revisit the 10 iconic rock immortals who helped shape us, then paid the ultimate price for living on the edge, burning out at the age of 27.

Musicians of the Woodstock Generation along with other iconic artists that have left their indelible stamp on all of our lives will be showcased. Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Kurt Cobain and others gave us the vision for a harmonious future, but how many have kept true to it? How many have sold out, and was it worth it?

The Vermont Institute of Contemporary Arts announces the not-to-be-missed world premier showing of Jack Dowds 27, featuring artistic, textural, musical and visual profiles of these compelling musical artists beginning with the work of Robert Johnson, one of Americas most important blues musicians. This is an all-media happening that speaks directly to the roots of our contemporary culture. Have we honored their gifts and their sacrifices? Do we even remember their message? Can we afford to turn our backs on their idealism?

Expanding on the slogan of the Woodstock Festival, 3 days of peace and music, let's experience 2 months of peace, music and art in downtown Chester.

Opening reception Friday the 29th 5:30-8pm. The exhibit runs through August 19th.

If coming from out of town The Stonehearth Inn and Tavern of Chester has graciously arranged a special VTica room and dinner package for $125 per night for all attendees. If you live nearby take advantage of Stonehearth's special VTica dinner for the unbelievable price of $35 for a party of 2.
