On Saturday, August 7th, the 72nd Annual August Supper will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Main Street in Chester on the back lawn under tent, rain or shine. As in past years, there are three seatings with the earliest starting this year promptly at 4:30 PM, followed by a second at 5:45 PM, and the last one at 7 PM. The cost for adults is $12, a child aged 6 to 10 is $6, and under 5 is free.
Past guest surveys say don’t change a thing. The menu features fresh baked turkey, ham and roast beef, baked beans, cold soups, potato, pasta and broccoli, and jellied salads, garden tossed salad, coleslaw, delectable desserts, lemonade, iced tea or hot coffee. The lavish banquet table for this annual event features locally produced and grown bounty. Advance reservations are recommended, call 875-2784. However, those without will be seated as space is available.
Preparations for the Supper are a source of great joy for members of the church that supports the local, state and world communities with outreach for fellowship and community services. In the larger world of human need and suffering, St. Luke’s has a strong tradition of giving, ranging from volunteers and financial support of the Vermont Food Bank, PINS, a human resource family service, letters and quilts for soldiers, the Chester Family Center, Little Roses, knitted mittens and hats for area school children and Operation Christmas Child.
