Secretary of State Jim Condos Calls On Vermont High Schools To Register Students; June 4-8 is High School Voter Registration Week

Montpelier - Today, Secretary of State Jim Condos announced the dates for High School Voter Registration Week.

Secretary Condos said, "Vermont's High School Voter Registration Week, June 4-8, was established to encourage Vermont's high schools to register their 18 year olds to vote before they leave school."

Voter registration activities will take place in high schools during this week, and others schedule registration drives at other times such as graduation day.

Condos said, "I applaud the efforts of our high school teachers and administrators to ensure that every Vermont student understands the importance of participating in the political process. Registering students to vote during High School Voter Registration Week is critical to ensuring that our young people vote."

Secretary Condos reminds Vermonters that in November 2010, Vermont voters overwhelmingly approved a Constitutional Amendment that allows 17 year olds who will turn 18 on or before the November 6th General Election the opportunity vote in the August 28th General Election Primary.

Secretary Condos stated further, "Students find it difficult to register while away at college, the military, or while working. We know from experience that Vermont's young adults are more likely to vote in the future if they register before they leave high school. We hope many students take advantage of this chance to be registered and ready for the next election."
