Springfield's grappling Cosmos have been hard at work the past few weeks! Some recent results include:

The high school varsity team wrapped up the official season at the State Varsity Tournament in Vergennes VT on February 24th & 25th. Senior Moira Stettner finished Friday night with two wins and one loss, making her the only female wrestler to make it to Saturday's competition. Junior Mason Olney joined freshman Brandon Bennett and sophomore Tim Bapp-Cederholm in scoring one match each Friday night. Juniors Trent Briere-Lewis, Matt Prosser, and Gillian Guy maintained their intensity and determination, ending the season with hard battles.

By the end of the two-day event, newcomer Skylar Wallace took 6th place, junior Jayson Webster battled to 6th place, and junior Matt LaChapelle placed third in the 170-lb division, qualifying him to compete in Providence RI in the High School New England Championships.

On Saturday, March 4th, Matt LaChapelle earned a spot in the top ten for his weight class with two excellent wins at HS New Englands - congratulations, Matt!

Also on March 4th, Springfield wrestlers all wore their green to Riverside Middle School for a pair of back-to-back annual wrestling tournaments: the Schweitzer Memorial K-8 Tournament and the Precision Valley Classic Girls State Championship. Amidst the nearly 300 wrestlers who hit the mats, there were lots of Springfield arms raised, hard battles fought, and CHAMPION shirts handed out. This year's home-team champs include Seth Markwell, Dmitri Jasinski, Jayden Paul, Tristan Perry, Dillan Lacasse, and Hunter Ferland.

Senior Mo Stettner and 8th grader Skyler Congdon each placed 2nd in their divisions at the all-girls tournament, which boasted 40 girls in grades K-12.

Youth wrestlers Hunter Ferland, Gabe McNeil, and Dillan Lacasse all recently qualified to compete in the Youth New England Championship in Salem MA on March 11th, while the rest of the youth team heads to Brandon VT to throw down at Otter Valley High School.

Keep up the great work, team! Good luck to Hunter, Gabe, and Dillan down in Salem!
