Wilderness Program For Young Adventurers

posted Friday, July 24, 2015

Time in nature increases happiness, health, and well-being in kids. Turn off the TV, switch off the laptop, hide the smartphone, open the door, look up, and get outside! This August, The Nature Museum at Grafton is offering a unique, outdoor adventure for youth.

Wild Walkers Wilderness: A Way of Life will be held on Tuesday, August 11th, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the woods, ponds and fields around The Nature Museum at Grafton. Wild Walkers is a partnership between The Nature Museum and Vermont Wilderness School, offering day-long outdoor experiences for youth ages 10 to 14. The Wild Walkers will explore their senses while in nature by tracking animals, wilderness navigation, foraging, fire-making, outdoor cooking, and more. This camp will activate the body and engage the mind through wilderness awareness. Experienced instructors from Vermont Wilderness School guide kids in a safe, fun, respectful experience of living close to the earth. At Wild Walkers, youth build self-confidence and resiliency outdoors while learning ancient wilderness skills.

Early-bird registration (by July 28) is $30 per student for this seven-hour program. After July 28 (if space remains): $35. Please register online for Wild Walkers at www.nature-museum.org, or call us at (802) 843-2111. These programs have filled quickly in the past; register early to ensure a spot! Youth should bring a hearty bagged lunch, water bottle, and appropriate clothes and sturdy shoes.

Located at 186 Townshend Road in Grafton, Vermont, The Nature Museum at Grafton offers museum admission by donation, vacation camps for children, and nature programs for adults, children, and schools. Information about other upcoming events can be found on The Nature Museum at Grafton's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/naturemuseumatgrafton) and on their website (www.nature-museum.org).
