Summer Wilderness Programs For Young Naturalists

posted Tuesday, May 19, 2015

Join The Nature Museum at Grafton this summer and give your child an adventure they'll never forget! A day at camp at The Nature Museum is a chance to get dirty, to challenge oneself, and to learn about the natural world around us. Visit www.nature-museum.org for more information on these programs.

Discovery Day Camp: Thursdays, 10 AM to Noon, July 2 to August 20: This weekly summer Thursday camp for children 8 and under. We invite 3- and 4-year-olds to attend if accompanied by a guardian. Join Environmental Educator Lynn Morgan as we explore habitats, meet animals, and learn with our five senses! Experience hands-on nature learning through fun games, interactive activities, and outdoor explorations. Whether kids come once or become a regular camper, they will explore the wonders of nature. Kids can become a full-fledged Nature Museum Junior Naturalist by attending all nine sessions! Special guest experts will join us throughout the summer. Day Camp is $8 per session when registered online, and $10 at the door.

Brave Bears: Inspecta Insecta July 6-10, 9AM to 3PM: Join us for five days of adventure! Brave Bears is a series of natural science programs geared for six- to nine-year-olds. We'll meet bugs, bees and other astounding crawling insects in this week-long summer camp. Bugs by the billions can be found all over Grafton. Enjoy lots of time outdoors as we use cool tools to look for our six legged friends, venture through the woods, cool off in the stream, and enjoy group games, arts, and crafts. On July 9th, we'll have a special break to look at a much larger organism: the bear! Special guest Jaclyn Comeau, a Wildlife Technician with the Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department, will teach us about black bear diet, life cycle, behavior, and habitat use! She will bring the equipment she uses in her job to learn about bears, and we'll get an expert's perspective on why it's so important to study these amazing animals. This five-day camp is $150 per camper. Register online at www.nature-museum.org.

Brave Bears: Creature Features July 20-24, 9AM to 3PM: Love all living things? Connect with the critters and creatures that live around The Nature Museum. This week, campers will discover birds, amphibians, reptiles and mammals by weaving through the woods, meandering around the meadows and playing around the pond. Your Brave Bears will have fun with games, crafts, and great outdoor activities. We will also examine some of The Nature Museum's animal artifacts, so there's no need to hunt for a better way for your Brave Bear to spend the week! On July 23, special guest Michael Clough will introduce us to some live animals from the Southern Vermont Natural History Museum. Brave Bears is The Nature Museum's series of natural science programs geared for six- to nine-year-olds. This five-day camp is $150 per camper. Register online at www.nature-museum.org.
