Chester Conservation Committee Sponsors What Do You Want From Your Forestland?

posted Tuesday, April 30, 2013

On Saturday, May 18th, forester Irwin Post, will lead a walk on his woodlot, exploring some of the many options landowners have in managing their forestland. The walk is sponsored by the Chester Conservation Committee and will take place at 1998 Trebo Rd, Chester, Vt., from 9-11 a.m. The walk is free of charge.

Whether your woodlot contains a few acres or a few hundred, you can realize many benefits from forest management. These include forest products, recreation, improved wildlife habitat, and enhanced aesthetics. On this walk, you'll have the opportunity to see some practices which you may wish to undertake on your land.

Irwin Post has spent over three decades managing woodlots in Vermont, has written numerous articles for the magazines Northern Woodlands and Independent Sawmill and Woodlot Managment, and was a contributing author for the new book, More Than a Woodlot, published by Northern Woodlands.

Please dress for the weather, including wearing boots, and anticipate walking through moderately difficult terrain. For more information, please contact Irwin or Melissa Post at (802) 875-4102.
