Order Bulbs Now to Light Up Chester in 2016

Chester Townscape is continuing its ongoing campaign to Light Up Chester by encouraging people to purchase beautiful daffodil bulbs to plant this fall in order to produce a burst of color in spring of 2016. This year's choice is the bright and perky Goblet. With a yellow trumpet and white petals, Goblet will coordinate perfectly with last year's King Alfred bulbs and provide additional interest and color.

On Saturday, October 10, 2015, from 10:00-3:00, Columbus Day Weekend, the Chester- Andover Family Center will hold a HUGE "Christmas under the Tent" sale. Holiday items to meet all of your decorating, entertaining, and gift-giving needs will be available. We will have toys, gifts, items for your holiday table, artificial trees, and decorations galore. As always, we price items to sell. Everything under the tent will be priced from $1.00-$10.00.

Blessing of the Pets at St. Luke's Episcopal Church

This year St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Main Street in Chester is offering two opportunities to bring your pets for a special blessing on the side lawn at St. Luke's: Saturday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. or on Sunday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. The church school children will be making biscuits for pets and cookies for their owners.

The Rev. Heidi L. Edson, Rector at St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Is hosting a new series of study for adults entitled, "Two Writings of Wisdom." The group study begins with the Book of Proverbs and will then continue on to Ecclesiastes (or Qoheleth). This study is open to all interested persons who might enjoy becoming more familiar with ancient Hebraic wisdom literature found in the Bible and in the Deuterocanonical Writings (Apocryphal) as well.

RiverSweep Volunteers Rock the Black River

On September 11 and 12, volunteers from the Black River Action Team, 50 from the Springfield area and 18 sixth grade students from Cavendish Elementary, scoured the river bed and banks for trash and hauled out a wide array of items. From a combined 65 bags of household waste (including clothing, food, dirty diapers, and fast food containers) to 48 tires, a refrigerator door to a road sign, the garbage was sorted as well as possible and delivered to the Ludlow and Springfield transfer stations.

Springfield Community Chorus Begins Its 49th Season

The Springfield Community Chorus is beginning its 49th season of musical productions this fall with director Kenneth Olsson conducting! Past concerts include performances of major works by composers such as Mozart, Puccini, Mendelsohn, Vivaldi and Haydn. The chorus also performs an annual holiday concert each December which includes a variety of both traditional and modern music.

Springfield Wrestling Team Thanks Supporters

The recent Color Gauntlet fundraising 5K fun-run hosted by the Springfield, VT Wrestling Team was a resounding success. with a final tally of just over $3,000 raised for the team's goal of buying new mats. More than 70 people took part in the event, walking and running along the Toonerville Trail recreation path in Springfield, getting blasted with biodegradeable colored powder at "color stations." Event organizers Angela Ferland, Ruth Congdon, and Kelly Stettner are thrilled with the turnout and the support from area businesses.
