Chester Conservation Committee Monthly Meeting December 1

The Chester Conservation Committee will have their regular monthly meeting this coming Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 7:00 pm. We'll meet in Frank Kelley's classroom at the Chester-Andover Elementary School. Topics for discussion include updates on the proposed Brookside trail including how to cross the brook, progress on the Butternut Hill trail in the Chester Town Forest, and planning of upcoming winter programs.

Springfield Chorus Holiday Concert "The Spirit of Christmas" December 5th in Chester and December 6th in Springfield

Start your Holiday season by joining us for a fun concert of lively music. We will be singing several tunes arranged by John Rutter, "Blow, Blow, Thou Winter Wind," "The Holy and the Ivy," and "Mary's Lullaby". In the mix are also tunes arranged by Mark Hayes, "Glad Tidings of Joy," "The Hands of Winter," and "Christmas Bells are Ringing" and a Trinidadian folk carol with a calypso flavor titled "The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy" arranged by Stephen Hatfield.

This annual event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Not really a tea, but a feast, this is truly a beautiful bountiful luncheon where you can share sandwiches, finger foods, cookies, cake and other delectable food items St. Luke's presents here. Come with a friend, reserve your ticket for $6 and then shop a bit without pressure. There are special handcrafted items, ornaments, baked goods, jams and jellies and Grandma's Attic which has a long tradition of your finding a treasure among glass, china, jewelry and other fine items. Then it is time to sit down with your friends and enjoy the sweets and sandwiches over your tea or coffee, poured by one of our hostesses. Little hostesses will probably come to your table to offer more yummy items for your empty plate.

Chester Townscape's Fall Tree Pruning at the Chester Green

Chester Townscape continued its project to marshal forces to prune dead branches from trees in the Chester Green and along the cemetery wall across Route 11 West. Judicious pruning is necessary both for the safety of people walking in the area and for the health of the trees themselves. Pruning and shaping are also beneficial to the town - making the area more appealing and attractive for residents and visitors.

The Agency Of Natural Resources has released the DRAFT Tactical Basin Plan for the West, Williams and Saxtons Rivers and Connecticut River and adjacent tributaries (Basins 11 and 13) for public comment.

More Daffodils Planted in Chester

Chester Townscape continued its fall tradition of planting daffodils at key public locations in Chester to increase the display of color that will emerge next spring. This year's planting was of the bright and perky Goblet. With a yellow trumpet and white petals, Goblet will coordinate perfectly with last year's yellow King Alfred bulbs and provide additional interest and color in 2016.

The Nature Museum presents "The Wild World of Mushrooms"
A summer mushroom workshop with Ari Rockland-Miller, The Mushroom Forager. The Wild World of Mushrooms will be offered twice: one workshop at 9:30am and a second at 1pm. Each workshop costs $30 and is appropriate for ages 15 and up.

The annual Chester Fall Craft Festival will be held on September 15-16th, 10am-4pm, on the Green in Chester. Crowds converge on the Green in Chester, one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in New England" to explore the unique handmade crafts offered by over 65 vendors lining the green.
