For the second year in a row, the owners of the Silver Bullet food truck have set up shop at the Color Gauntlet 5K fun run, a fundraising event for the Springfield Wrestling Team. They donate the proceeds of their sales to the team to help with the costs of attending tournaments and purchasing necessary equipment. This year, the Bullet received very generous donations of food from vendors Liberal Beef and Koffee Cup Bakery -- both Claremont NH vendors donated half the cost of their products so that the Bullet could donate even more to the team!

The Nature Museum's Eighth Annual Fairy House Festival on September 24th and 25th was a warm, whimsical, and wondrous event. 1,200 visitors from across the Northeast came to Grafton to celebrate the magic of nature and revel in the spirit of fairies. Sunshine spilled over the autumn leaves as the smell of popcorn filled the air. Bubbles floated by as children, parents, and fairy-lovers built fairy houses in the gardens, made crafts, and enjoyed face painting. Thank you to everyone who came out to be a part of it! And a big thank you to all of our fairy house builders and festival volunteers for being the creative foundation which stirs nature's spirit in everyone who attends this event. It was exhilarating to see the excitement of the visitors as they connected with nature in ways that promise to outlast this festival.

The threat of rain didn't keep dozens of volunteers from signing up to walk and paddle stretches of the Black River in a four-pronged effort to clean junk from the bed and banks of our beautiful waterway. Intrepid students from the Cavendish Elementary School again stepped up to remove all manner of garbage from a lovely historic swimming hole. In partnership with the Town of Cavendish, the kids gained access on foot and their "findings" were taken to the town's transfer station for disposal. A separate crew of adults and teenagers paddled from the Paddock Road bridge down to Hoyt's Landing in Springfield, collecting tires, traffic cones, and even a water-logged old couch cushion from the soft bottom of the river. Rebecca and Aaron Weinstein, with son Kai, joined Jeff Semprebon of Claremont NH, and Mo Stettner with friend Alyssa Bangerter in getting "down and dirty" to haul out the heavy junk while wearing smiles.

Uniforms. Headgear. Tournament fees. The expenses of running a wrestling team add up. The Springfield VT Wrestlers work hard on the mats, and even harder in the trenches... the fundraising trenches, that is. Most recently, the 2nd Annual Color Gauntlet 5K Fun Run saw ?66? runners and walkers, and many enthusiastic volunteers throwing the home-made, food-coloring-dyed cornstarch powder.
